What we collect
We collect the information needed to run BuddyCheck and support your account.
In the BuddyCheck app
- Account details, such as your name, email address, phone number, campus, birthday, profile photo, and sign-in status.
- App activity, such as completed habits, reading progress, shared notes, memory activity, prayer requests, awards, Buddy Blocks scores and gameplay statistics, buddy relationships, comments, nudges, and notification settings. We do not ask for your religious beliefs or affiliation, though the Bible and prayer activity you record naturally reflects religious practice, and your campus selection shows which location you attend.
- Device and support details, such as push notification tokens, app version, platform, basic diagnostic logs, and error reports.
- Invite link activity, such as Buddy Codes created or claimed through the app.
- Email engagement, such as delivery, opens, clicks, and app visits attributed to a BuddyCheck email.
- Mobile app analytics, such as app opens and sessions, screens viewed, sign-in method, tutorial progress, completed habit type, push registration and notification-open outcomes, invite outcomes, app and device details, an approximate region such as country or state that Google derives from your masked network address rather than from GPS or any location permission, and a random app-installation identifier. We do not send Google Analytics your name, email address, Buddy identity, invite code, password-reset or email-verification tokens, shared notes, prayer requests, comments, or other user-created content.
On our website at trybuddycheck.com
- Your visit to our website. While you are on our site we measure which of our pages you open, how far down a page you scroll, how long a page is visible, which links and app-store buttons you select, and any errors or slow page loads. We also see which link, search, or campaign brought you to us — the referring page, which every website receives. Visits are counted with a random visitor and session number rather than your name, and we store a one-way hash of your network address instead of the address itself. We cannot see what you do on other websites.
What we don't do
We want to be as clear about what we don't collect as about what we do.
- We do not access your contacts. BuddyCheck never reads your address book. You add a buddy by scanning a QR code or opening an invite link they send you.
- We do not track your location. The app never asks for location access and never reads GPS.
- We do not use advertising identifiers, and BuddyCheck has no ads. The app is built without Apple's advertising framework, Android's advertising ID is turned off, and our website tag runs with Google's advertising features disabled.
- We do not send your personal content to analytics providers. Your name, email address, prayer requests, notes, and comments stay out of analytics entirely.
- We do not sell personal information.
How we use it
We use this information to create and secure accounts, show daily habit progress, connect buddies, deliver reminders, send onboarding and product emails, understand which campaigns and public pages are effective, measure movement to the App Store or Google Play, measure product and email engagement, provide support, improve app and website reliability, and protect the service from abuse. Diagnostic information may be associated with an account, device, or app session when needed to investigate a problem or secure the service.
What your buddy can see
BuddyCheck is built around encouragement from your accepted buddies. Your accepted buddies can see habit progress and buddy-visible activity inside the app. Content such as prayer requests, shared notes, and comments on shared posts may be visible to all of your accepted buddies when you choose to save or share it through the app.
Who we share data with
We do not sell personal information. We use service providers that help us operate BuddyCheck, such as hosting, Google Analytics for public website measurement, Google Analytics for Firebase to measure mobile app use, email, push notifications, crash diagnostics, authentication, and Bible content providers. These providers process information for BuddyCheck and Sagebrush Church, not for their own unrelated marketing. BuddyCheck configures its public-site Google tag and mobile analytics without advertising identifiers, advertising storage, Google advertising signals, or ad personalization.
Notifications
If you enable notifications, BuddyCheck may send reminders about daily habits, buddy activity, requests, comments, and other app updates. You can change notification settings in the app or in your device settings.
Children
BuddyCheck is for people age 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 created an account or provided information, contact us and we will review and delete it as appropriate.
Your choices
You can update profile details in the app and unsubscribe from onboarding emails using the link in those messages. Browser privacy settings and content-blocking tools can limit website cookies and Google Analytics. You can request help, correction, export, or deletion by emailing buddycheck@sagebrush.church. For account deletion steps, visit Account deletion.
Security and retention
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect BuddyCheck data. An unverified registration that never completes a profile may be deleted after 30 days of inactivity. A verified registration that never completes a profile may be deleted after 90 days of inactivity. We send a warning before this cleanup. Completed member accounts and accounts containing BuddyCheck activity are not deleted merely because they are inactive.
Mobile Firebase Analytics event-level data is scheduled for deletion after 14 months; aggregate reports may remain available longer. Detailed BuddyCheck website analytics and pseudonymous account-onboarding journey data are scheduled for deletion after 400 days; daily or cohort totals that no longer identify a visitor, session, or account may be retained longer for trend reporting. Website visitor cookies can last up to one year, campaign attribution cookies up to 90 days, and session cookies up to 30 minutes after activity. Other information is kept as long as needed to provide the app, support users, comply with legal obligations, and maintain backups. No system is perfect, but we take the responsibility seriously.
Changes
We may update this policy as BuddyCheck changes. When we do, we will update the date above. If a change is significant, we will use a reasonable notice method.
